The Best Laid Plans – a new LUCSUS publication

Can state-led conservation management in South Africa limit the agency of local inhabitants, despite claims of being done in the name of sustainable development? A recent publication by LUCSUS researchers Melissa Hansen, Turaj Faran and David O’Byrne finds that this has indeed been the case in a village located in the iSimangaliso Wetland Park in northern KwaZulu-Natal.

The paper, entitled  “The Best Laid Plans: Using the Capability Approach to Assess Neoliberal Conservation in South Africa – The Case of the iSimangaliso Wetland Park” is published in the Journal of Environment and Development and is available at http://jed.sagepub.com/content/early/2015/08/12/1070496515598348.abstract
